Nail salons are one of the more competitive categories in Chilliwack and one of the most thoroughly independent. Almost every one of them is owner-operated, several are family businesses, and a good number run nails alongside lashes, brows or waxing rather than doing one thing only. There is no chain presence worth speaking of. Luna Nails is listed in that company, in Sardis, which is where the category concentrates.
The concentration is not subtle. Nail work in this city lines up along Vedder Road through Sardis, in the plazas near Cottonwood Centre and Chilliwack Mall, with a thinner scatter downtown and out toward Eagle Landing at the Highway 1 interchange. Sardis is only the fourth largest neighborhood by area and carries a wildly disproportionate share of the city's storefronts, Cottonwood alone running to something over seventy tenancies, so a salon here is competing on a street where a customer has options within a two-minute walk. There is also a layer this directory can only partly see: home studios and mobile technicians serving Promontory and the Eastern Hillsides, neighborhoods built without commercial space of their own.
What the entry gives is a postal code and a neighborhood, and that is all: nothing to ring, nothing to browse, no number on a door. For a salon that is a real limitation, because the two things anyone wants to know first, what is on the service list and how far out the book runs, are exactly the two things that cannot be published in a directory anyway. The postal code will get a map to the right pocket of Sardis. Beyond that it is a matter of walking in and asking, which in a category this dense is not much of an imposition; the plazas along that stretch are close enough together to check two or three in the same trip.
