A farming village in the southwest of the city between the Vedder River and Vedder Mountain, settled by Mennonite families from 1928 and still the most self-contained small centre in Chilliwack.
Yarrow is the one part of Chilliwack that still reads as a separate village, and that is because it was one. Twelve Mennonite families arrived in February 1928 and bought land that had only just stopped being underwater — the draining of Sumas Lake and the cutting of the Vedder Canal in the early 1920s is the reason there is anything here to farm at all. The community they built ran as its own centre for decades before amalgamation folded it into the city.
What survives is a real, if small, high street on Yarrow Central Road: a grocery, a cafe or two, a hardware counter, the churches, and a scatter of trades and studios working out of converted farm buildings on the roads out. Very little of it has ever been catalogued anywhere, though, which is why this page is shorter than the village is: most Yarrow businesses have no website and no map pin, and only what could be verified is listed here.
Beyond the village it is berry fields, dairy and greenhouse operations running toward the Vedder on one side and up against the base of Vedder Mountain on the other.
