Fraser Valley neighbourhood
Directly south of downtown and the city's retail center of gravity, holding Cottonwood Centre, Chilliwack Mall and the Luckakuck Way big-box strip. Includes the Skowkale and Yakweakwioose communities and the Coqualeetza Lands.
Sardis is where Chilliwack does most of its shopping. Cottonwood Centre carries something over seventy tenancies, Chilliwack Mall is across the way, and Luckakuck Way between them is the closest thing the city has to a big-box strip. For a neighborhood that is only the fourth largest by area, it carries a wildly disproportionate share of the city's storefronts.
What that means for a directory is that Sardis is the hardest neighborhood to cover honestly. A great deal of what trades here is national; and national chains are not what this site is for. The independents are in the smaller units off the anchor tenants, in the strip plazas along Vedder Road as it runs south out of the mall district, and in the light-industrial pockets behind, where a lot of Chilliwack's trades and auto shops actually keep their yards.
The neighborhood also holds the Skowkale and Yakweakwioose communities and the Coqualeetza Lands, managed by Stó:lō Nation; ground with a much longer history than the retail either side of it.
