Fraser Valley neighbourhood
Businesses in Promontory, Chilliwack
A suburban neighbourhood on the slopes of Promontory Hill in the south of the city, almost entirely residential, with views over the valley and forest at the top of every street.
Promontory is the hill above Vedder, and it is the clearest example in Chilliwack of a neighbourhood built almost entirely in one go. It grew 39 per cent in the decade to 2021 and now holds close to twelve thousand people, which makes it the third most populous part of the city despite being the third smallest by area.
It is also the part of Chilliwack with the fewest businesses per resident, and that is not an accident — it was zoned and built as housing, with the shops left down on the flat. What trades up here is what a hill neighbourhood generates: home services, trades working out of a van and a garage, landscapers, cleaners, a handful of professionals working from a home office, and the small convenience-and-coffee cluster that serves the school run.
For anything else, Promontory shops down Teskey Way and Promontory Road onto Vedder Road, which is a five-minute drive and the reason the neighbourhood has never needed a centre of its own.
