A rural, historic farming area in the southeast between Mount Thom, Elk Mountain and the Chilliwack River valley. The most remote part of the municipality and among the least populated.
Ryder Lake is the far corner of Chilliwack, up behind Promontory between Mount Thom and Elk Mountain, and it has fewer people in it than almost anywhere else in the city — about 1,290 across a large and mostly forested area. Getting there means climbing out of the valley on Elk View Road, and that climb is the whole character of the place.
It is old farming country: smallholdings, hobby farms, hay, livestock and a long history of orchards, mixed in with forest, trails and the lake the area is named for. The businesses reflect that exactly — farm gates, a few equine and livestock operations, some agricultural contracting, and trades who happen to live up the hill.
Do not expect a strip of shops, and do not be surprised if this page is empty. There is no shopfront trade at Ryder Lake at all. What operates from up here is farm gates and one-person trades working across the whole municipality, and a business with no premises is listed among the ones that serve Chilliwack rather than pinned to an address it does not have. Anyone living up here shops down in Sardis.
