Chilliwack's accounting practices are still largely downtown, often on a first floor above a shop on Wellington Avenue or Yale Road, with a newer group working out of Sardis. The work here has a distinct local shape. Farming is close to a third of the city's economic activity, so a good number of these firms handle agricultural accounts: seasonal income, herd and inventory valuation, farm succession and the tax treatment of ALR land. Alongside that is a heavy small-business and trades load — Chilliwack has an enormous number of one-van contractors — and the usual personal returns. Several practices are bookkeeping-first rather than CPA firms.
