A small category, and an unexpectedly durable one. Chilliwack keeps a couple of instrument shops handling sales, rentals, repairs and lessons, largely because the school district and the university campus at the south end generate steady demand for band and orchestral rentals every September. Alongside them there is a used-record trade — one of the larger downtown bookshops runs a substantial vinyl counter — and a scatter of independent teachers and repair techs who work from a studio rather than a shopfront. Three or four listings rather than thirty, but for anyone looking for a luthier or a rental clarinet in the Fraser Valley, they are the right three or four.
