About Brightside Eggs

A local food shop near the Cottonwood and Chilliwack Mall cluster, on Evans Road.

Poultry sits just behind dairy in the ranking of what Chilliwack produces, and this is the largest dairy area in British Columbia, so that is a substantial second place. Something over 17,000 hectares inside the municipal boundary is farmland, carrying more than 700 farms, and agriculture accounts for close to 30 per cent of local economic activity. Against that background a business named for a single product is not a novelty. It is one of the ordinary consequences of living on ground where the food is actually grown.

Brightside Eggs is listed at 6899 Evans Road in Sardis, a street that crosses Luckakuck Way in the middle of the busiest retail ground in the city. Cottonwood Centre and its seventy-odd tenancies are on one side, Chilliwack Mall on the other, and the big-box run along Luckakuck Way lies between them. Sardis is only the fourth largest neighborhood by area yet it carries far more of Chilliwack's storefronts than that suggests. It also gives out into farmland fairly quickly going south and west, which means a food business here can be close to both the fields and the weekly shop. That combination is a large part of why the independent grocery trade holds up in this city better than in most places of comparable size.

A website is published, which is the place to check anything specific before making a trip. No phone number appears here and no photographs have been supplied. How the business operates is not established, whether that means a farm gate, a shop counter or an order placed in advance, and the distinction matters more for eggs than for most groceries. That is a normal gap and an easy one to close. Roadside and farm-direct selling across the valley thins out in the cold months, although eggs are less seasonal than most of what is sold that way.

The twelve Chilliwack neighborhoods, and what each one is actually like

The City defines twelve neighborhoods. Three of them hold about two thirds of the population and most of the shopfronts, and the other nine run from a drained lake bed to a hillside to a working dairy landscape. Here is the honest version of each.
