Luckakuck Way is where Chilliwack does the bulk of its shopping. Cottonwood Centre on one side carries something over seventy tenancies, Chilliwack Mall sits across from it, and the road between them is the closest thing the city has to a big-box strip. Sardis is only the fourth largest neighbourhood by area and it holds a wildly disproportionate share of the storefronts. A food shop at unit 200, 45585 Luckakuck Way is therefore catching people already out doing errands, which is a different proposition from the stands on the roads through Greendale and Rosedale that require a deliberate trip.
The supermarkets in this city are all national and so are absent from this directory. What is left is the more interesting half of the grocery trade, and Chilliwack supports an unusual amount of it. The municipality holds 17,000 hectares of farmland and more than 700 farms, agriculture accounts for close to 30 per cent of local economic activity, and the result is a layer of food retail that most cities of this size do not have: farm stores selling their own beef, dairy and eggs, greengrocers working with produce grown a few kilometres away, butchers, bulk and health-food shops, and the corn stands that open in August. This is also the largest dairy producing area in British Columbia, with poultry and greenhouse growing behind it.

Produce retail moves with the season more than any other kind, and in a valley this productive the difference between July and February is real.
