Grocery Stores
An independent food shop near the Cottonwood and Chilliwack Mall cluster.
Food shopping in Chilliwack is stranger, and better, than the size of the place suggests. The supermarkets are all national and therefore absent from this list, but the city sits inside 17,000 hectares of farmland carrying more than 700 farms, the largest dairy producing area in British Columbia, with poultry and greenhouse growing behind it. That supports a layer of independent food retail most cities of ninety thousand people do not have: farm stores selling their own beef and eggs, butchers, greengrocers working with produce grown a few kilometres away, bulk and health food shops, and the roadside stands out through Greendale, Yarrow and Rosedale that open with the corn and shut when it is finished.
Fraser Valley Meats is filed in that independent half of the grocery trade, at a Sardis postal code near the Cottonwood Centre and Chilliwack Mall cluster. It is a busy corner of the city to be standing in. Sardis holds a share of Chilliwack's storefronts entirely out of proportion to its area, and the stretch of Luckakuck Way between the two centres pulls traffic from across the eastern valley. A specialist food shop beside all that catches people who are already out doing a weekly shop, which is a different proposition from the farm gate trade on the flat, where the customer has driven out on purpose. Both models work in this valley, and plenty of households use one for the weekly run and the other for a specific errand.
The record carries no phone number, no website and no street address, so a postal code and a map pin are what you have to work with. What is sold, where it comes from and whether any of it moves with the seasons all fall outside what this listing can honestly claim, and in a valley this agricultural, seasonality is a real condition rather than a marketing line. Going in person is how you find out.

The drive-throughs on Luckakuck are the visible half of eating here. The interesting half is downtown, out on the farm roads, and in the strip plazas nobody photographs.
