Restaurants
An independent restaurant in the village of Yarrow.
Yarrow reads as a separate village because it was one. Twelve Mennonite families arrived in February 1928 and bought land that had only recently stopped being underwater; the draining of Sumas Lake and the cutting of the Vedder Canal a few years earlier are the reason there is anything to farm out here at all. The community ran as its own center for decades before amalgamation folded it into Chilliwack, and Rivers Restaurant is listed on Yarrow Central Road at number 42239.
Eating out in Chilliwack is a scattered business rather than a clustered one, and that is the single most useful thing to know before looking for dinner. The downtown has the densest run of independent kitchens, between the blocks around Five Corners and the District 1881 development. Vedder Road through Sardis has the greatest number overall, though a lot of those sit in strip plazas and are easy to drive straight past. And then there are the places out in Yarrow and Rosedale, a handful of them, which have generally outlasted more than one owner and are the reason people drive out.
What the listing does not carry is anything about the food. No phone number and no website are on file, so the menu, the hours and whether a table needs booking are all unknown from here, and for a place this far out from the center of the city those are not small unknowns. Chains are excluded from this directory, which at least establishes that this is an independent room rather than an outpost of something larger. Beyond that, the honest advice is to ring ahead if you can find a number, and to confirm it is open before making the drive, because Yarrow is far enough from the rest of Chilliwack that a closed door is a wasted trip rather than a minor inconvenience.

From the blog
Longer reads from the editor, with the places worth a detour linked inside them.
The City defines twelve neighborhoods. Three of them hold about two thirds of the population and most of the shopfronts, and the other nine run from a drained lake bed to a hillside to a working dairy landscape. Here is the honest version of each.

The Luckakuck strip is the visible half of eating in Chilliwack, and the least interesting. The rest is downtown around Five Corners, in the numbered units of the Vedder Road plazas, and out on the farm roads through Greendale and Yarrow.
