About Gon Sushi
An independent Japanese restaurant near Garrison Crossing.
Garrison Crossing was built on the grounds of CFB Chilliwack after the base closed in December 1997, and it is the reason the south end of Vedder looks nothing like the rest of the city. Vedder grew 39 per cent between 2011 and 2021, faster than any neighbourhood here except Promontory, and it now holds more people than anywhere but the downtown. Most of that growth landed at the south end, in Garrison Crossing itself and in the subdivisions that filled in around it, which is the part of town this restaurant is listed in.
Japanese food travels well in British Columbia and Chilliwack is no exception, though the way it is distributed here takes some getting used to. Independent dining rooms in this city are scattered rather than clustered. Downtown has the highest concentration, in the blocks around Five Corners and in the District 1881 development. Vedder Road through Sardis and Vedder has the greatest number overall, but many of them sit in strip plazas and are easy to drive straight past. Anywhere near Garrison Crossing is a partial exception, since that neighbourhood was laid out to be walked rather than driven through, but the general rule holds. Knowing the address matters more here than it would in a city with one restaurant street.
Nothing in the record gives a number to ring, a site to browse or a street to aim for. A postal code and a neighbourhood is what there is, which is enough to locate a general area and not enough to plan an evening around. Whether the room takes reservations, whether it does delivery, what the menu actually covers, none of that is recorded here, and none of it should be read into the category label. Sushi restaurants differ enormously in what they set out to do, and the gap between the two ends of that range is wider than a directory heading can carry.
