General Contractors
A Fraser Valley builder trading since 1979, doing custom homes, renovations and commercial construction on Chilliwack sites.
Not every job under this heading is a new house. The firms listed cover new build, additions, renovation and the steady repair trade in the older downtown and Fairfield Island housing, with a separate agricultural strand out in the rural neighbourhoods doing barns, shops, storage and equipment buildings. That rural work is its own specialism and has little in common with putting an addition on a bungalow. Chilliwack has added something like 11,700 people in five years, which is why this category is so large and why availability matters as much as price; when a firm could start is a fair question to put alongside what it would charge.
Ground matters here more than it does in most places. A site inside the Agricultural Land Reserve, a parcel carrying a floodplain designation, or a lot on the slope up to Promontory or the Eastern Hillsides each bring a permitting dimension that a flat suburban lot does not, and the November 2021 flooding on Sumas Prairie and the low ground made the floodplain question a good deal less theoretical. Firms that have worked in this municipality a long time tend to know which of those apply to an address before the drawings start. None of it is exotic. It is simply what building on this ground involves.
North Built Construction appears here without a street address, a telephone number or a website. For a builder that is not unusual, since a great deal of this trade moves by referral and never advertises. It does leave the entry thin, though, and it means anyone after a quote will have to find contact details by another route before a conversation can even begin. When it does begin, the questions worth putting early are which of those kinds of site the firm actually works on, whether it has built on that kind of ground in Chilliwack before, and who carries the permitting.
