The rural half of the municipality shapes what these shops actually do. Vedder itself has changed faster than any other part of the city except Promontory, growing 39 per cent between 2011 and 2021, most of that at the south end around Garrison Crossing and the subdivisions that filled in after the Canadian Forces base closed in 1997. More households means more vehicles and more pressure on the shops already there.
