Two thirds of Chilliwack is farmland, the rural road network that serves it is long, and for eight months of the year Fraser Valley weather puts a grey film on anything left outside. That is the honest reason this city supports as many wash bays as it does, and why they keep working in February as well as July. Jessie's Car Wash is in Sardis, on the plaza-lined stretch of the Vedder Road corridor.
Sardis is a sensible place for it. This is where Chilliwack does the bulk of its shopping, with Cottonwood Centre and its seventy-odd tenancies on one side, Chilliwack Mall across the way, and the Luckakuck Way big-box strip running between them. A wash sitting in that catchment is taking cars that are already out running errands rather than asking anyone to make a special trip, which is most of the business model in this category. The remainder of the city's washes are spread along Young Road and out toward the Highway 1 interchange, with several attached to independent fuel stops in the farming neighbourhoods.
What the listing does not settle is the format, and the formats differ enough to matter before you drive over. A self-serve bay with a wand and a coin timer, an automated touchless tunnel and a hand detailing operation are three different transactions at three different prices, and only some of them will take a lifted truck, a fifth wheel or a work van with a rack on the roof. Chilliwack has a detailing layer precisely because the automated bays cannot fit everything the valley drives. The postal code will put a map on the right part of Vedder Road, and a slow pass in the car will answer the format question faster than any description can.
