Vedder Road carries more restaurant rooms than any other corridor in Chilliwack, and a great many of them are easy to drive straight past. They sit in strip plazas, set back behind parking, with signage competing against everything else on the strip. In this city that is the norm for the format rather than an exception. Ginkgo Chinese Food has a Vedder Road address in Sardis, which puts it squarely in that pattern and close to the retail center of gravity for the whole city.
Sardis is where Chilliwack does its shopping. Cottonwood Centre runs to something over seventy tenancies, Chilliwack Mall sits across from it, and Luckakuck Way between them is the nearest thing the city has to a big-box strip. A neighborhood only fourth largest by area therefore holds a wildly disproportionate share of the storefronts, and the restaurants along Vedder Road draw on that traffic as much as on the residential streets behind them. The independent dining rooms in this city are scattered rather than clustered, which is the single most useful thing to know before looking for dinner: the downtown and District 1881 have the highest concentration, Vedder Road has the greatest raw number, and Yarrow and Rosedale hold a few that are worth the drive.

Nothing here describes the menu, the size of the room, whether food is eaten in or carried out, or how orders are taken, and inventing any of that would defeat the purpose.
