Car Washes
Touchless
About Touchless
An owner-run car wash, in one of the Sardis plazas along Vedder Road.
A touchless wash does exactly what the name says: high pressure water and detergent, no brushes, no cloth, nothing making contact with the paint. The trade-off is well understood by anyone who has weighed it up, a slightly less thorough clean in exchange for no risk of the fine swirl marks that friction systems can leave on a dark finish. The listing does not record whether this site is a drive-through bay, a self-serve wand setup or both.
Chilliwack washes a great many vehicles, and the reason is agricultural rather than vain. Two thirds of the municipality is farmland, the rural road network is long, and the Fraser Valley spends eight months of the year putting a film of grit and road spray on everything that moves. That keeps the bays busy through the winter, not just in the weeks when people are thinking about how their car looks. The washes here are spread along Vedder Road, up the Young Road corridor and out toward the Highway 1 interchange, with several attached to independent fuel stops in the farming neighbourhoods. Alongside them sits a detailing layer, mobile operators and unit-based shops, which exists largely because the automated bays cannot take a large truck or an RV.
This one is in Sardis, where more of Chilliwack's retail sits than in any other neighbourhood: Cottonwood Centre, Chilliwack Mall and the Luckakuck Way strip are all within a few minutes of the postal code above. That is a sensible place for a wash, since it is rarely the sole reason for a trip across town. Neither a number nor a site is attached to this entry, so hours, payment methods and bay dimensions cannot be confirmed in advance. For a wash that matters less than it would for most businesses, but a large vehicle is worth measuring by eye before committing to the entry.

The drive-throughs on Luckakuck are the visible half of eating here. The interesting half is downtown, out on the farm roads, and in the strip plazas nobody photographs.
