Downtown Chilliwack was the whole of the city's retail long before the malls, and its shape still comes from the junction where Yale Road, Young Road and Wellington Avenue meet. It still counts more than 350 businesses across banks, restaurants, clinics, pharmacies and small independent retail, which is a lot for a core that could easily have been hollowed out by the strips to the south. A shop that puts Wellington in its name is placing itself firmly in the older half of the city's retail.
Clothing is one of the categories where the split between the two Chilliwacks shows most clearly. Nearly all of the national clothing retail in the city is out at Cottonwood Centre and Eagle Landing, and none of it appears in this directory.
