Independent clothing retail in this city is a thin layer underneath a very thick one. The national chains sit in Cottonwood Centre and at Eagle Landing, and none of them appear in this directory. What is left is smaller and more interesting: boutiques in the downtown around Wellington Avenue and in the District 1881 blocks, a strong consignment and second-hand trade, western wear and workwear suppliers that exist because a great many people here work outdoors or on a farm, and a few specialists in Sardis. A map pin will land on the right general block on the downtown side of the Hope Slough, which is enough to walk from and not enough to promise a particular door.
