An independent gym in Vedder, close to the Canada Education Park campuses.
Vedder grew 39 per cent between 2011 and 2021, faster than any neighborhood in Chilliwack except Promontory, and it now holds more people than anywhere but the downtown. The gym is at 5725 Vedder Road, which runs the length of the southern half of the city, from Sardis down to the river crossing. Much of that growth arrived at the south end, in Garrison Crossing on the grounds of the base that closed in 1997 and in the subdivisions that filled in around it.
There is a second reason this part of the city supports independent training rooms. Canada Education Park sits at the south end, and between the University of the Fraser Valley campus, the RCMP Pacific Region Training Centre and the Justice Institute of BC, it concentrates a lot of people who train seriously and need somewhere to do it. National chains are excluded from this directory, so what is listed alongside this gym is the independent layer: strength and conditioning rooms, boxing and martial arts clubs, and smaller studios tucked into the industrial units behind Sardis where the ceilings are high and the rent is not. Municipal leisure centers are listed separately again. That is an unusual demand base for a city of this size, and it shows in how many small rooms the section carries.
There is no way to tell what kind of gym this one is, and the difference between a general fitness floor, a barbell room and a class-based studio matters more to most people than proximity does. A website is published and no telephone number, which makes the site the place to start on membership terms, staffed hours and whether drop-in visits are possible. Anyone weighing it against something in the downtown should also think about what a Vedder Road address means for the drive, because the corridor carries most of the traffic moving through the south of the city.
