Take the national fitness chains out of a city's gym listings and what remains is usually thin. In Chilliwack it is not. The independent side runs to strength and conditioning rooms, boxing and martial arts clubs and a scatter of small studios, several of them in industrial units behind Sardis rather than on any high street, and a good number strung along Vedder Road. Part of the reason sits at the south end of that road. Canada Education Park puts the University of the Fraser Valley campus, the RCMP Pacific Region Training Centre and a Justice Institute of BC campus within a few minutes of one another, which concentrates a lot of people who train seriously into one corner of the city. Twin Rinks carries a Vedder postal code, on the long southward run of Vedder Road toward the river. Vedder now holds more residents than any neighborhood in Chilliwack except the downtown, and most of that weight is at its southern end, near those campuses. Municipal leisure centers are catalogued separately from this category, so what is gathered here is the private side of the trade.
There is very little to it. A name, a category and a postal code is the whole of it, with nothing published by way of a telephone, a web page or a street, so what is offered inside, what it costs and when the doors are open all go unanswered here. Gyms differ from one another on membership terms more than on almost anything else, so drop in rates, contract length and whether casual visitors are taken at all are the questions to put first. It is worth asking what the equipment actually amounts to as well, since the word covers everything from a room full of free weights to a studio with no barbell in it. Going in person is usually the quickest route to all of that, on the understanding that the trip may come to nothing.
