Gyms in this city have a source of support that is easy to miss from outside. The south end of Vedder holds Canada Education Park, and the three institutions on it, the University of the Fraser Valley campus, the RCMP Pacific Region Training Centre and a Justice Institute of BC campus, put an unusual number of people who train seriously into one corner of Chilliwack. That shows in the range of rooms the city sustains: independent gyms, strength and conditioning spaces, boxing and martial arts clubs, and small studios in the industrial units behind Sardis where the ceilings are high and the rent is not.
Sardis Sports Complex is placed between the Sardis shopping centers and Vedder Crossing, a reasonable position on a road most of the neighborhood drives daily. Vedder Crossing is where the road reaches the river at the bottom of the neighborhood, so the stretch in between carries a good deal of the local through traffic. National chains are excluded from this directory and municipal leisure centers are listed separately, so what remains on the page is the independent middle of the trade. The name suggests something broader than a single room of equipment, but there is no way to know what is under the roof, and describing a space nobody has walked through would be guesswork.
