An independent Vietnamese restaurant in the old commercial grid around Five Corners.
E. Yong Oriental Restaurant is listed in Chilliwack Proper, the downtown neighborhood built around Five Corners, where Yale Road, Young Road and Wellington Avenue all arrive at the same junction. The lede above files it as Vietnamese, which in a city this size is worth noting on its own: the independent kitchens here are scattered rather than clustered, and the range of cuisines is thinner than in the Lower Mainland proper, so a particular one is never a given.
The downtown holds the highest concentration of independent dining rooms in Chilliwack, in the blocks around Five Corners and in the District 1881 development on the old Chilliwack Cattle Sales site, which brought a run of newer kitchens in beside the older ones. Vedder Road through Sardis and Vedder has the greater number of rooms overall, but most of those sit in strip plazas and are easy to drive past without registering. Out in Yarrow and Rosedale a handful of places have outlasted several owners. Chains are excluded from this directory, so what remains on the restaurant pages is genuinely local, and the downtown is the part of it you can walk between. That density is an advantage the plaza strips do not have. With several kitchens inside a few blocks, a closed door is an inconvenience rather than a wasted evening out.
This record carries a postal code and a neighborhood and very little else: no street number, no phone, no website. That matters more for a restaurant than for most categories, because hours are the thing you most want to know and the thing least safe to assume. Nothing here indicates whether there is a lunch service, whether bookings are taken, or what the room is like. The postal code will get a map to the right part of the downtown grid, and past that it is a matter of going and looking.

The City defines twelve neighborhoods. Three of them hold about two thirds of the population and most of the shopfronts, and the other nine run from a drained lake bed to a hillside to a working dairy landscape. Here is the honest version of each.
