Five Corners is where Yale Road, Young Road and Wellington Avenue all arrive at once, and the blocks around it were the commercial center of Chilliwack long before there was a mall to compete with them. Something over 350 businesses trade downtown now, across banks, clinics, pharmacies, restaurants and small independent retail, and the District 1881 redevelopment on the old Chilliwack Cattle Sales site has pulled a second cluster in beside the first. The neighborhood around it holds roughly 31 per cent of Chilliwack's residents, more than any other part of the city. The Capitol Restaurant is on the older ground.
What is known is short: locally owned, Chinese food, a postal code in the core and a telephone number. There is no street address and no website, which means the number is the way in, and a map will find the block rather than the door. Downtown that is a smaller problem than it would be on a highway strip, because the core is walkable and the blocks around Five Corners are compact enough to check on foot. The postal code is a V2P one, the downtown series rather than the V2R that covers Sardis and Vedder, so there is no risk of confusing it with the south end.
Independent restaurants in Chilliwack are spread thin rather than gathered, and the downtown is the exception where several sit within a few minutes of each other. It is the one part of the city where changing your mind at the door costs nothing. On hours, on service, on the room and on anything more specific than the cuisine, there is nothing to offer here, because none of it was established when the business was checked. The number above will settle all of it in a minute, which is worth using before driving in rather than after arriving.
