Fast Food & Takeout
An independent takeaway in the blocks that have been Chilliwack's center since before the malls.
House of Hotdogs occupies Unit A at 8810 Young Road, inside the oldest commercial grid in Chilliwack and a few blocks from the point where Young Road, Yale Road and Wellington Avenue converge at Five Corners. The name does most of the explaining that can honestly be done here. What can be added is the setting: counter trade in a downtown that holds roughly 31 per cent of the city's population and better than 350 businesses, where the midday demand comes from the offices, the clinics, the hospital nearby and people who are already downtown for something else.
The takeout category needs a caveat in this city. The version of it most visible from a car, the drive-throughs strung along Luckakuck Way and out at the Highway 1 interchange, is almost entirely national chains, and chains are not carried here. What is left is the independent half: pizza shops, the Asian counters in the Sardis strip plazas, fish and chips near Vedder Crossing, the food trucks that move around the industrial areas at lunchtime, and downtown places like this one. A shorter list than the category suggests, and a more useful one. Most of what remains is counter service or takeaway only, with little room to sit down, though which side of that line any individual place falls on is not something settled here.
No phone number is published. There is a Facebook page linked instead, which for a small independent counter is often where hours and any temporary closure actually get posted, and it is the sensible thing to look at before walking over. Counter service of this kind tends to keep its own schedule rather than a retail one, particularly at the edges of the day, and nothing verified here establishes what that schedule is.

The City defines twelve neighborhoods. Three of them hold about two thirds of the population and most of the shopfronts, and the other nine run from a drained lake bed to a hillside to a working dairy landscape. Here is the honest version of each.
