An independent Thai restaurant on the Vedder Road run south toward the river.
Strip plazas are good at hiding restaurants. Vedder Road south of the Sardis malls is lined with them, and Thai Taste sits in one, at unit B130 of 6640 Vedder Road, a building with several tenancies and no single frontage to catch the eye. The unit number is worth noting before setting off, because the sign will not do that job for you from the road. Directories are better at streets than at units, and this is a case where the unit is the part of the address that matters.
This corridor carries the greatest number of independent dining rooms in Chilliwack, more than the downtown does, although the downtown's are far easier to come across on foot. The neighborhood behind them explains why. Vedder grew 39 per cent between 2011 and 2021, faster than anywhere in the city bar Promontory, and it now holds more residents than any neighborhood except the downtown itself, with Canada Education Park and the University of the Fraser Valley campus at its southern end. That is a large catchment with very little in the way of an old high street to eat on, so the plazas do the work instead. It also means the good ones tend to travel by word of mouth.
Both a phone number and a website are published, which makes it one of the more straightforward ones to check before you go. That is where to look for hours, for whether takeaway or delivery are offered, and for the menu, none of which is recorded here and none of which should be guessed at from a category label. What can be said safely is that it is an independent kitchen rather than a chain outlet, since chains do not appear on this site at all, and that it is in the half of Chilliwack where most of the eating now happens. The rest is a phone call away, and the call is worth making.
