Breweries & Distilleries
An independent brewery in the old commercial grid around Five Corners.
Craft brewing came to Chilliwack later than it came to Vancouver, and the list is still short, but the city has one structural advantage over the coast: the ingredients grow within sight of the taprooms. Malting barley and hops are farmed in the Fraser Valley, and fruit off the flat at Greendale, Yarrow and Rosedale turns up in seasonal releases. That is not a marketing line so much as a fact of geography, since roughly two thirds of the municipality is farmland. Field House Brewing Co. is one of the operations working in that setting.
Its postal code places it downtown, in Chilliwack Proper, rather than in the light-industrial pockets where most taprooms in this region end up. That is worth a moment. Breweries usually take industrial units because the format needs floor space, drainage and a loading door, which is why the ones around here tend to sit behind Sardis or out toward Village West and have to be sought out. The blocks around Five Corners, where Yale Road, Young Road and Wellington Avenue converge, are the opposite sort of address: they have been the center of the town since long before the malls, they carry more than 350 businesses, and they pick up passing custom that a unit on an industrial cul-de-sac never will.
No street address, phone number or website is recorded here, so this is thinner than most. What that means practically is that anything time-sensitive, and in this trade almost everything is time-sensitive, cannot be checked here. Tap lists change, production runs sell out, and hours in a taproom rarely match hours in a shop. There is enough here to place the business in the downtown and no further, so confirming the doors are open before setting out is sensible. A brewery with no contact details published is a starting point rather than an answer.

The City defines twelve neighborhoods. Three of them hold about two thirds of the population and most of the shopfronts, and the other nine run from a drained lake bed to a hillside to a working dairy landscape. Here is the honest version of each.
