Craft brewing reached Chilliwack well after it reached Vancouver, and the list here is still a short one. What the city has that the coast does not is proximity to the ingredients: malting barley and hops grown in the Fraser Valley, and fruit off the farms at Greendale, Yarrow and Rosedale that finds its way into seasonal releases. Sidekick Brewing sits inside that small local trade, at Unit 106, 45530 Vedder Mountain Road.
Vedder Mountain Road runs out toward the river crossing at the south end of the city, in the neighbourhood that has grown faster than anywhere in Chilliwack except Promontory. Vedder added 39 per cent to its population between 2011 and 2021 and now holds more people than any neighbourhood but the downtown, most of it around Garrison Crossing, built on the grounds of CFB Chilliwack after the base closed in December 1997. Canada Education Park is close by, carrying the University of the Fraser Valley campus, the RCMP Pacific Region Training Centre and a Justice Institute of BC campus. That is a substantial adult population within a short drive, which is not the usual setting for a taproom in this city; most of them are tucked into light industrial units where you need the address before you go. Cultus Lake and the heavily fished Vedder river both draw visitors through the warm half of the year, and that traffic passes this end of the city.
A phone number and a website are both published here, which puts this among the better documented entries on the site. Use them. Taproom hours, whether there is food, what is pouring and whether cans or growlers are going out the door all change, and none of it is tracked by this directory. The unit number matters too. An address written that way usually means a building with several tenancies rather than a standalone frontage, so look for the number rather than expecting a sign to find you from the road.
