Craft brewing arrived in Chilliwack later than in Vancouver and it is still a short list, but it is a real one, and the city has an advantage the coast does not: it is surrounded by the ingredients. There is malting barley and hops grown in the Fraser Valley, and fruit from Greendale, Yarrow and Rosedale that finds its way into seasonal releases. The taprooms are mostly in light-industrial space rather than on retail streets — the units behind Sardis and out toward Village West — which is the normal pattern for the format and does mean you have to know where you are going. Cideries and distilleries are listed here too.
