Chilliwack has a genuinely good bakery scene for its size, and the reason is partly historical. The Mennonite settlement at Yarrow from 1928 onward brought a baking tradition that never left the valley, and you still find its descendants; the breads, the zwieback, the fruit platz; on counters in Yarrow, Sardis and the downtown. Layered over that is the newer wave: laminated pastry, sourdough, the sort of place that sells out by eleven on a Saturday. There is also a farm-adjacent strand out in Greendale and Rosedale where the fruit in the pie was grown within a few kilometres of the oven. Supermarket in-store bakeries are not listed.
