An independent bakery in the old commercial grid around Five Corners.
Young Road is one of the three arms of Five Corners, and an address on it puts a business inside the oldest commercial grid in Chilliwack, blocks that were the center of the town for decades before the malls went up in Sardis. Benanna Bakery Inc trades from that grid, at 8985, with both a phone number and a website of its own published against the listing. That is a different sort of position from a unit in one of the Sardis plazas, where a good deal of the city's newer food retail has ended up.
Bakeries are a category this city does unusually well for its size, and the reason goes back further than most people assume. Twelve Mennonite families settled at Yarrow in February 1928, on ground drained from Sumas Lake a few years earlier, and the baking tradition they brought with them never left the valley. Its descendants still turn up on counters here: the breads, the zwieback, the fruit platz. Over the top of that has come a newer layer of laminated pastry and long-fermented sourdough, and out on the farm roads through Greendale and Rosedale a third strand where the fruit in the pie grew a few kilometres from the oven. Three traditions in one small city.
Which of them this particular bakery belongs to is not something the listing settles, and it is not the sort of thing to guess at. What comes out of the oven, on which days, and whether much of it is left by early afternoon are all worth a call or a look at the website before setting off. Both are published above. The postal code will take a map to the right stretch of Young Road, which is walkable from Five Corners and from most of the rest of the downtown, so it is easy enough to fold into an errand rather than make a trip of.

The City defines twelve neighborhoods. Three of them hold about two thirds of the population and most of the shopfronts, and the other nine run from a drained lake bed to a hillside to a working dairy landscape. Here is the honest version of each.
