The address includes a unit number, which is the first useful thing to know here. Taprooms in Chilliwack are mostly in light industrial space rather than on retail streets, in the tilt-up units behind Sardis and out toward Village West, and Unit 404 at 44550 South Sumas Road follows that pattern. It is the normal shape of the format across the province, a consequence of needing floor space, drainage and a loading door more than a shopfront. It also means knowing where you are going matters, because a brewery in a business park does not announce itself from the road the way a pub does.
Craft brewing reached this city later than it reached Vancouver and the list is still a short one, but there is an advantage here that the coast does not have: the ingredients are all around. Malting barley and hops are grown in the Fraser Valley, and fruit comes off Greendale, Yarrow and Rosedale ground a few kilometres away. Brewing is also one of the few trades here where the thing being sold is made on the premises, so the taproom and the plant share one address.
