About Marais Tea Company & Café
A coffee shop on Mill Street, in the downtown, within walking distance of Five Corners.
Selling tea by the packet and running a room to drink it in are related trades but not identical ones, and the name here points at both. Where the emphasis actually falls between the two is not something a directory entry can settle, and it is not the kind of question this page can answer honestly.
The address is on Mill Street, in the downtown, a short walk from Five Corners. That junction, where Yale Road, Young Road and Wellington Avenue all arrive at once, has been the commercial center of Chilliwack since long before the malls existed, and the blocks around it now hold more than 350 businesses across banks, restaurants, clinics, pharmacies and small independent retail.
Coffee and tea in this city sort themselves by neighborhood fairly cleanly. Downtown is where the sit-and-work rooms are, several of them in heritage buildings with high ceilings where the wifi was clearly an afterthought. Vedder Road runs the drive-through-adjacent format and serves traffic rather than lingering. Garrison Crossing has the walkable-square version, which is what that neighborhood was built around. There is even a rural strand, a counter at the back of a nursery out toward Rosedale, which only makes sense in a city where two thirds of the land is under crop. A tea room belongs to the first pattern more than the others.
Both a telephone number and a website are published here, which is more contact detail than most listings on this site carry, so anything practical can be settled before setting out. What the entry cannot tell you is the shape of the day: whether the room fills at nine with people who intend to stay, or turns over quickly. Hours are not recorded either. District 1881, on the old Chilliwack Cattle Sales site, has pulled a second cluster of food and drink into these blocks, so there is more within walking distance than there was ten years ago.

The twelve Chilliwack neighborhoods, and what each one is actually like
The City defines twelve neighborhoods. Three of them hold about two thirds of the population and most of the shopfronts, and the other nine run from a drained lake bed to a hillside to a working dairy landscape. Here is the honest version of each.
