Corky's Irish Pub
About Corky's Irish Pub
An owner-run pub, in the old commercial grid around Five Corners.
Chilliwack does not have a bar district. There is no block here where you could walk out of one room and into another two doors down, which is how drinking works in bigger cities and emphatically not how it works in the Fraser Valley. What the city has instead is neighborhood pubs, spread thin: the older rooms downtown, several attached to hotels that were standing long before the malls, the larger suburban places along Vedder Road with their patios and screens, and a couple out at Vedder Crossing that fill with fishing traffic when the runs are on.
Corky's Irish Pub sits in the first of those groups. The postal code places it in the old street grid around Five Corners, where Yale Road, Young Road and Wellington Avenue converge and where the town's business has been done since well before anything was built out on the highway. Downtown carries more than 350 businesses now, with the District 1881 redevelopment on the old Chilliwack Cattle Sales site adding a second knot of food and drink beside the historic blocks. A pub in that grid is within walking distance of a good deal, which is not true of most of the licensed rooms in this city.
The name declares an intention and nothing more. No hours, no menu and no view of the inside are available here, and none of those will be guessed at. No phone number or website is published either, which for a small owner-run room is ordinary rather than suspicious. The postal code above will drop a map pin on the right few blocks, and the rest is a matter of looking in. It is worth remembering that several of the licensed rooms in this part of town are older than the suburbs that now hold most of Chilliwack's population, which is not nothing when choosing where to sit.

The twelve Chilliwack neighborhoods, and what each one is actually like
The City defines twelve neighborhoods. Three of them hold about two thirds of the population and most of the shopfronts, and the other nine run from a drained lake bed to a hillside to a working dairy landscape. Here is the honest version of each.
