Kelly O'Bryans
About Kelly O'Bryans
An independent pub near the Cottonwood and Chilliwack Mall cluster.
Sardis carries a share of Chilliwack's storefronts wildly out of proportion to its size, and a pub sitting in among them is doing a particular job. It is not a destination room at the end of a walkable strip, because this city does not have one of those. It is the place people reach after the shopping or on the way home from it, drawing on the subdivisions and the two shopping centers rather than on foot traffic that was already out for the evening.
That is the shape of most drinking here. The oldest rooms are downtown, several of them attached to hotels that were standing long before the malls arrived. The newer pubs are strung along Vedder Road through Sardis and Vedder, generally large, generally with a patio and a screen, built to serve the houses around them. Vedder Crossing fills with fishing traffic in the warm months. There is no bar district and very little in the way of a cocktail scene, and anyone arriving from the coast expecting either will be adjusting their expectations on the drive in.
What is missing here is the practical detail. No street address is published, only a postal code, which will drop a map pin in the Cottonwood and Chilliwack Mall vicinity rather than at a door. A postal code is a coarse instrument in a part of town built around large parking lots, where two premises sharing one can sit a five minute walk apart. There is no phone number on file and no website either.
That combination matters more in this category than in most. Hours, kitchen times and whether the room is open on a given evening are usually the only questions a person has, and none of them can be checked from here. Better to know that in advance than to work it out standing in a car park.

The twelve Chilliwack neighborhoods, and what each one is actually like
The City defines twelve neighborhoods. Three of them hold about two thirds of the population and most of the shopfronts, and the other nine run from a drained lake bed to a hillside to a working dairy landscape. Here is the honest version of each.
