Bars & Pubs
An owner-run pub, in the downtown, within walking distance of Five Corners.
Downtown holds Chilliwack's oldest drinking rooms, and a number of them are attached to hotels that were standing long before anything went up on Luckakuck Way. The name on this listing points squarely at that tradition. What it does not tell you is anything about the room itself, and this page is not going to guess at it. Chain pub brands are kept off this list, so everything sitting near it in the bars section is independently run.
The wider thing to understand about drinking in this city is that there is no bar district. Chilliwack drinks in neighbourhood pubs, and they are spread out accordingly. The newer suburban rooms, generally large, generally with a patio and a screen, are down in Sardis and Vedder serving the subdivisions around them, and Vedder Crossing fills up with fishing traffic when the river is running. The downtown pubs are a different proposition. They sit in the blocks around Five Corners, where Yale Road, Young Road and Wellington Avenue all arrive at once, among more than 350 businesses and the District 1881 redevelopment on the old cattle sales site. You can walk to one from a good deal of the core, which is not true of anywhere else in the municipality, and you can walk home from it as well.
The record here carries a postal code and a neighbourhood and very little else: no street number, no telephone, no website. For a pub that is more of an obstacle than it would be for a trade, since hours, whether food is served and whether there is a kitchen at all are exactly the things a first-time visitor wants settled in advance. The postal code will put a map on the right part of the downtown. Beyond that, this is a place to walk past and look at rather than one to plan an evening around unseen.

The drive-throughs on Luckakuck are the visible half of eating here. The interesting half is downtown, out on the farm roads, and in the strip plazas nobody photographs.
