Dukes Pub
About Dukes Pub
An owner-run pub, among the fields in Greendale.
A pub in Greendale is a different proposition from a pub on Vedder Road. Greendale is the southwest corner of the municipality, farmland with a road grid laid over it, second largest neighborhood in Chilliwack by area and home to fewer than three thousand people spread across the whole of it. Nothing out there is walking distance from anything else. Dukes Pub sits in that, which means it draws on a scattered population and on whoever happens to be on those roads.
The city as a whole drinks in neighborhood pubs rather than in a bar district. There is no strip in Chilliwack where you could walk between three of them. The oldest rooms are downtown, several of them attached to hotels that predate the malls; Sardis and Vedder have the newer suburban pubs with patios and screens, serving the subdivisions around them; Vedder Crossing fills up with fishing traffic in season. What the city does not really have is a cocktail scene; the closest it comes is a handful of restaurant bars downtown. A rural pub belongs to none of those categories. It is closer to the older idea of the thing, a room that exists because the people nearby have nowhere else nearby to go. Chain pub brands are excluded from this directory, so everything on the list is independent by definition.
The listing is thin, and honestly so. There is no phone number here, no website, and no street address was ever confirmed, so the postal code above is the best guide to the right block. That combination is common enough among smaller operations that it should not be read as a sign of anything in particular. It does mean nobody can check ahead from this page, and driving out into Greendale on the assumption that a place is open is a longer mistake than making the same assumption downtown. Worth confirming through some other channel before setting off.

Chilliwack eats in three separate places, and only one of them is obvious
The Luckakuck strip is the visible half of eating in Chilliwack, and the least interesting. The rest is downtown around Five Corners, in the numbered units of the Vedder Road plazas, and out on the farm roads through Greendale and Yarrow.
