Liquor Stores
An owner-run liquor store, on the Vedder Road run south toward the river.
British Columbia runs a split liquor retail system, with government stores alongside private ones, and the private half is mostly independently owned. That makes this a category where a local directory earns its keep, because the ownership really is local and the selections differ from shop to shop in ways a chain's would not. Government stores and the national private chains are left off these pages, so what is listed here is the owner-run half of the trade. The practical upshot is that two stores a few kilometres apart can hold visibly different stock, and neither of them is wrong to.
Chilliwack's private stores are spread thin and placed deliberately: attached to neighbourhood pubs downtown and in Sardis, in the strip plazas along Vedder Road, out at Vedder Crossing where the fishing and Cultus Lake traffic goes past, and one or two serving the rural west toward Yarrow and Greendale. Several carry Fraser Valley wine, cider and beer that never reaches a Vancouver shelf, which is the practical argument for looking past whichever store is nearest. This listing sits in Vedder, which added 39 per cent to its population in the decade to 2021 and is now outnumbered only by the downtown. The business name points at Garrison Crossing, the neighbourhood laid out on the former CFB Chilliwack site after the base shut in December 1997, and at the subdivisions that filled in around it.
What the shop stocks is not recorded here and should not be inferred from the name. No street address, phone number or website is published, which leaves the postal code as the only pointer, and it will put a map on the right part of the neighbourhood rather than on a door. Anyone driving out specifically for Fraser Valley producers would do better to ask on arrival than to assume, because shelf space given to local bottles varies a great deal between stores.
