Liquor Stores
An owner-run liquor store, in Vedder, between the Sardis malls and Vedder Crossing.
Chilliwack's liquor stores are spread thinly and placed with some deliberation, mostly where the traffic already is: attached to neighbourhood pubs downtown and in Sardis, in the strip plazas along Vedder Road, out at Vedder Crossing where the fishing and Cultus Lake traffic passes, and one or two serving the rural west toward Yarrow and Greendale. Private liquor retail in this province is mostly independently owned, which is why a local list is more use here than a national one, and why government stores and the national private chains are not included. Several of the independents carry Fraser Valley wine, cider and beer that never reaches a Vancouver shelf.
This one is in Vedder, the long residential neighbourhood running south from the Sardis retail to the river. It is the fastest-growing part of the city, up 39 per cent between 2011 and 2021 and now second only to the downtown for population, most of that concentrated at the south end around Garrison Crossing, built on the grounds of the Canadian Forces base that closed in 1997, and the subdivisions that filled in behind it. A shop between the malls and Vedder Crossing sits on the route from the shopping to the river, which is a sensible place to be on a Friday in July.
What is actually stocked is not something this listing knows. The name puts the emphasis on wine, but selection, and in particular whether Fraser Valley producers are represented, varies store to store and is worth a question at the counter. Private shops also set their own hours and their own range, which is a further reason a specific question belongs at the store rather than in a directory. No phone number, website or street number is published in the record, so the postal code is the way to find the block. For a specific bottle rather than a general errand, that is a thin basis on which to plan a trip.

The drive-throughs on Luckakuck are the visible half of eating here. The interesting half is downtown, out on the farm roads, and in the strip plazas nobody photographs.
