Liquor Stores
A liquor store on the Greendale flats southwest of the city.
Greendale is farmland with a road grid laid over it. It takes up the southwest corner of the municipality, is the second largest neighborhood in Chilliwack by area, and holds fewer than three thousand people across all of it, which tells you most of what you need to know about the density out there. A shop of any kind on the Greendale flats is serving a scattered population and whatever is passing on the section roads, not a high street. That is a harder trade than it looks from the city, and it is why the few businesses that exist in the rural neighborhoods tend to matter more to the people around them than an equivalent shop in Sardis would.
Private liquor retail in British Columbia is largely independently owned, which makes this one of the categories where a local list earns its keep. Chilliwack's private stores are spread thinly and with some logic: attached to neighborhood pubs downtown and in Sardis, in the strip plazas along Vedder Road, out at Vedder Crossing where the fishing and Cultus Lake traffic goes past, and one or two serving the rural west toward Yarrow and Greendale. Several of them carry Fraser Valley wine, cider and beer that never reaches a Vancouver shelf. Government stores and the national private chains are not listed here.
Whether this one stocks much from the valley is not known, and neither is anything else about it. There is no phone number, no website and no street address given, only the postal code and the neighborhood, which between them will put a map in the right area. What that cannot show is which of the section roads the building fronts onto. No hours are recorded either, and the drive out across the flats is long enough that arriving on spec has a real cost attached to it.

The City defines twelve neighborhoods. Three of them hold about two thirds of the population and most of the shopfronts, and the other nine run from a drained lake bed to a hillside to a working dairy landscape. Here is the honest version of each.
