Liquor Stores
An independent liquor store near the Cottonwood and Chilliwack Mall cluster.
Private liquor retail in British Columbia is mostly small and mostly independently owned, which is unusual enough among regulated trades to be worth stating plainly. It also means a local directory has something real to say about the category rather than listing the same few national names that turn up in every town. Government stores and the national private chains are left off this page deliberately. The category also rewards a little local knowledge, because the shops are not interchangeable and what sits on the shelves is where they differ.
Chilliwack's private stores are spread thinly and with some logic to the spread. Several are attached to neighborhood pubs, downtown and in Sardis. Others sit in the strip plazas along Vedder Road, or out at Vedder Crossing where the fishing traffic and the Cultus Lake traffic go past, or west towards Yarrow and Greendale serving the rural end of the municipality.
One consequence of being in the Fraser Valley is that the better stocked shops carry regional wine, cider and beer that never makes it onto a Vancouver shelf, though there is no way to say which of them do.
This one is at 45610 Luckakuck Way, on the retail spine of Sardis with Cottonwood Centre and Chilliwack Mall to either side. That is convenient ground: the busiest shopping in the city, and an address most residents can find without directions. Luckakuck Way is one of the few stretches of Chilliwack that nearly everybody uses at some point, which makes a stop here a small detour rather than an errand of its own. No phone number and no website are published, so there is no way to check a particular bottle in advance. Hours are not published here either, and they vary from shop to shop in this trade rather than following a common pattern, so a late trip is worth confirming first.

The City defines twelve neighborhoods. Three of them hold about two thirds of the population and most of the shopfronts, and the other nine run from a drained lake bed to a hillside to a working dairy landscape. Here is the honest version of each.
