Schools & Tutoring
An owner-run school, on the downtown side of the Hope Slough.
Count up the schools in Chilliwack that operate outside the school district, and the total is larger than a city this size would suggest. The reason is who settled the valley floor. Yarrow was founded in February 1928 by twelve Mennonite families on ground drained from Sumas Lake a few years earlier, and the Mennonite and Reformed communities farming Greendale and the flats around it built schools alongside their churches. Several of those schools are still going, generations after the first classrooms went up. This section of the directory covers that side of education rather than the public district, together with tutoring, music and language teaching, driving schools and trades training.
Hope Adventist Christian School comes out of a different tradition from those, as the name makes plain, but sits in the same category: a faith-based independent school rather than a public one. Its postal code places it on the downtown side of the Hope Slough, inside Chilliwack Proper, the neighbourhood that holds about 31 per cent of the city's residents. No street address, phone number or website appears in this listing.
That gap matters more for a school than for most entries, because nearly every question a parent has is one this directory cannot answer. Grades taught, enrolment, tuition, whether places are open and how admission works are not in the record and will not be invented to fill the space. Contact has to be made directly, and the denomination is usually the quickest route to a current number. Anything a page like this could add beyond that would be filler dressed up as information. It is worth adding, for anyone weighing up education in this city more broadly, that the formal education district is at the far south end rather than downtown: the University of the Fraser Valley's Chilliwack campus at Canada Education Park shares its ground with the RCMP Pacific Region Training Centre and a campus of the Justice Institute of BC.

The drive-throughs on Luckakuck are the visible half of eating here. The interesting half is downtown, out on the farm roads, and in the strip plazas nobody photographs.
