Unity Christian School
About Unity Christian School
An independent school up in the Eastern Hillsides.
Faith-based and independent schooling has deeper roots in Chilliwack than the city's size would suggest, and the reason is who settled the flat ground. Yarrow was founded by twelve Mennonite families in February 1928, on land drained from Sumas Lake a few years earlier when the Vedder Canal was cut, and Greendale has a comparable history. The schools that grew out of those communities and the Reformed congregations alongside them are still operating, and several of them appear in this section.
Unity Christian School is listed on Hack-Brown Road in the Eastern Hillsides, which is a long way from Yarrow in both distance and character. The Eastern Hillsides grew 163 per cent between 2011 and 2021, from roughly 1,300 residents to roughly 3,450, which is far and away the sharpest growth anywhere in the city and has not stopped. It is a set of subdivisions and cul-de-sac clusters pushed up onto the north slopes of the Cascades, on the ridge separating the Chilliwack River valley from the farmland below. A school up there is serving new households as much as old ones.
This section of the directory covers the private and supplementary side of education rather than the public school district, so it holds independent schools, tutoring, music and language instruction, driving schools and trades training together in one place. National tutoring franchises are not listed. Most of the city's educational weight sits at the south end, in Canada Education Park, which is a different world from a school on a hillside road. For the school itself, a website is published above and no phone number is, which makes the site the place to go for the things that actually matter to a family weighing it up: which grades are taken, what admission involves, what it costs, and what the faith element means day to day. None of those are things a directory entry should be answering on a school's behalf.
