An owner-run pet shop, in the blocks that have been Chilliwack's centre since before the malls.
Almost nothing is published for this business. A name, a category, a neighbourhood and a postal code is the whole of the record: no street number, no telephone, no website. Rather than pad that out, it is worth being direct about what it means. That gap is not unusual on a list like this one, where plenty of small shops have never had a website and see little reason to start now. Anyone wanting to visit will have to search the name or ask locally, and the postal code will at least put a map on the right corner of the downtown.
What can usefully be said is what pet retail looks like in this city, because it is not quite what a newcomer expects. There is the ordinary neighbourhood layer, shops in Sardis and the downtown selling food, bedding and the rest for cats and dogs. Behind it sits something considerably more agricultural: feed and supply operations out in Greendale, Rosedale and up toward Ryder Lake serving horses, livestock and working dogs, carrying bulk feed, fencing and tack that no suburban chain would stock. Ryder Lake in particular is smallholding and equine country. The national pet chains are excluded from this directory, which strips out most of the mall presence and leaves the independents and the agricultural suppliers standing side by side on one list.
A downtown address puts this one firmly in the first group. The blocks around Five Corners hold more than 350 businesses and have been the commercial centre of the town since long before the malls existed, and a shop there is part of a walkable run rather than a destination reached by car. Foot traffic in the core behaves quite differently from the parking-lot traffic down in Sardis, which is worth bearing in mind for any small retailer working these blocks. What is on the shelves, and whether anything is done beyond retail, are questions this listing simply cannot answer.
