45886 Wellington Avenue puts this hotel in the oldest commercial part of Chilliwack, among banks, clinics, pharmacies and small independent shops, with the District 1881 redevelopment a short walk off. Wellington is one of the three roads that meet at Five Corners, which has been the middle of the town since long before anybody drew a shopping center on the south side of it.
Almost all of the rooms in this city are national brands parked at the Highway 1 interchanges, and none of those are listed here. The independent side is smaller and rather more interesting: family-run motels, a few inns, riverside and rural accommodation out toward Vedder Crossing and up the Chilliwack River valley, and bed-and-breakfast operations in the farming neighborhoods. Demand across that whole group is strongly seasonal, because most of what brings visitors to Chilliwack is outdoors. Cultus Lake, the Vedder fishing runs, Mount Cheam and the river valley campgrounds all fill through the warm months and empty again afterwards. August is the month to book a long way ahead for.
A downtown address shifts that calculation somewhat, since it is close to things the highway hotels are not: the general hospital on Menholm Road, the Coliseum, the courts and offices around the core, and the restaurants within walking distance of them. The Royal Hotel publishes a phone number and a website, so rates, room types and availability can all be checked directly, which is fortunate, because none of them are recorded here and none of them would stay accurate if they were. How many rooms the place holds, and what shape the accommodation takes, are also absent here and are fair things to put plainly on a first call, particularly if you are traveling with other people or arriving late. What can be vouched for is the location, and the location is the part that does not change from one season to the next.
