Childcare & Daycare
An independent childcare center in the downtown, within walking distance of Five Corners.
Licensed childcare is the scarcest thing listed on this site, and the way Chilliwack is laid out makes the shortage worse than the raw numbers suggest. The neighborhoods that have absorbed the most young families, Promontory, the Eastern Hillsides and the newer parts of Vedder, were built as housing with almost no commercial space in them. The centers are therefore mostly down on the flat, in Sardis and the downtown, while a good deal of the demand is up the hill. A large share of what capacity exists is licensed family childcare operating out of somebody's house.
Elm Drive sits inside Chilliwack Proper, the core neighborhood holding roughly 31 per cent of the city's residents along with the old commercial grid around Five Corners. That is a convenient address for a parent whose working day is already downtown and a less convenient one for a parent commuting in from the hillsides, though in a market this tight most people take the space they are offered and drive to it. Downtown is also where a good deal of the city's employment sits, between the hospital on Menholm Road and the 350 plus businesses in the core, so a center in these blocks is close to the jobs as much as to the houses.
What is on file here is a name and a street, and nothing more. No phone number and no website have been recorded, and the name points to an operator running more than one location, which often means enrolment enquiries are handled centrally rather than at the building. Establishing that is the first call. The second question is the waitlist, and it is worth understanding that waitlists in this city are the ordinary condition rather than evidence that one center is unusually sought after. The standing advice for this section applies with full force: approach several places, get onto more than one list, and treat any single answer as provisional until a space is actually confirmed.

The City defines twelve neighborhoods. Three of them hold about two thirds of the population and most of the shopfronts, and the other nine run from a drained lake bed to a hillside to a working dairy landscape. Here is the honest version of each.
