An owner-run furniture shop, in Vedder, close to the Canada Education Park campuses.
Chilliwack has been putting up houses at a rate few places in the province can match, and every one of them eventually needs filling. That is the demand a furniture shop here is working against. The trade in this city divides three ways: independent showrooms, generally in Sardis or along the Young Road corridor, selling sofas, mattresses and dining sets; a substantial second-hand and consignment side, which is what happens where there is a lot of downsizing and a lot of arriving at the same time; and a small maker layer of cabinetmakers and reclaimed-timber workshops tucked into industrial pockets and out on the rural roads. A city adding households at this rate keeps all three of them busy.
Rococos is listed in Vedder, at the south end of the city, not far from the Canada Education Park campuses. That is not the obvious address for furniture. Vedder is residential and has been growing hard, second only to Promontory over the last census decade, and most of its commercial space is incidental to the housing rather than the point of it. A shop out here is serving the subdivisions on its doorstep and the university, RCMP and Justice Institute traffic at the end of the road, rather than catching people already out on a retail strip.
Which of the three strands this shop belongs to is not something the listing settles, and it would be wrong to guess. Nothing here records whether it sells new, used, consigned or made to order. There is no phone number and no website attached to this listing, so a screen will not settle it either. Furniture is one of the few things people still want to sit on before they buy it, which makes the missing website less of an obstacle in this category than it would be in most. Going and looking was always going to be part of it.

The drive-throughs on Luckakuck are the visible half of eating here. The interesting half is downtown, out on the farm roads, and in the strip plazas nobody photographs.
