Ice Cream & Dessert
An independent ice cream shop up on Little Mountain.
Little Mountain is the smallest neighbourhood in Chilliwack by both area and population, roughly 1,170 people on the slopes and the top of Mount Shannon, northeast of the downtown. Most of the middle of it is forest. The reason the rest of the city comes up here at all is the Little Mountain Stairs and the lookouts at the top, which means a good share of the people on these streets on a warm afternoon arrived on foot and slightly out of breath. That is a useful thing to know about the setting for a dessert shop.
Kent's Ice Cream Co. is listed at 47582 Yale Road, the eastern reach of the same Yale Road that meets Young Road and Wellington Avenue down at Five Corners. This is a good place in the world to be selling frozen dairy. Chilliwack is the largest dairy producing region in British Columbia, with more than 700 farms working the two thirds of the municipality that lies inside the Agricultural Land Reserve, and the distance between a milking parlour and a freezer cabinet can be very short. Whether it is short in this particular case the record does not say, and it should not be assumed.
The trade here is seasonal as much as it is geographic. Farm-gate operations out in Greendale, Rosedale and Yarrow open with the weather and shut when it turns, and the counters along the Vedder Crossing and Cultus Lake road live on summer traffic that would not sustain them in November. A shop up a residential hill is a different proposition again, closer to its own neighbourhood than to any of the tourist routes. The listing does not settle whether this is a scoop counter, a small producer, or both, and those are different errands. No hours, phone number or website appear here, though, so the category advice holds in February as much as in July: check before driving up for one specific thing.

The drive-throughs on Luckakuck are the visible half of eating here. The interesting half is downtown, out on the farm roads, and in the strip plazas nobody photographs.
